The Language of Creativity

The theme of this year’s symposium is designed to encourage discussion around the issues of how creativity is interpreted and used in collaborative and interdisciplinary interaction design projects. Critical to this dialogue is the involvement of both researchers and practitioners. The symposium will provide an opportunity to share project experiences and emerging themes in this hybrid field. Create11 will present examples of novel design practice, methods and ideas from both commercial and academic fields.

The day will include:

Keynote speaker: Moritz Waldemeyer http://waldemeyer.com

Moritz Waldemeyer (b.1974) is a British/German designer and engineer. He trained as an engineer at King’s College London and completed his Masters degree in 2001. Since then, he has collaborated with many of the world’s top architects and fashion designers including Ron Arad, Zaha Hadid and Hussein Chalayan. His work is a fusion of technology, art, fashion and design.

Panel discussion:

Chaired by Dr Michael Smyth. The everyday language of creative practice.  Academics, researchers and practitioners will debate the ‘real world’ pragmatics of doing interaction design projects. Panelists confirmed so far:  Prof Stephen Scrivener, Head of Research, Chelsea College of Art and Design, Nelly Ben Hayoun, Designer/performer

Open Studio visit:

Round off the day with a glass of wine at a local design practice near Shoreditch House.

Lunch is included in the registration fee, as well as networking opportunities – or rather a chance to have a bit of a chat with some new people with similar interests over a coffee.
