Infusion devices (pumps) – some resources (posters / presentation) from MHRA and NHS

The MHRA (Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency) run infusion pump study days (see ‘Conferences and education‘ on their website) and have produced these posters “to illustrate some common failures”, with fearless use of clip art images as well as a less pleasant image of ‘extravasation’ (where “fluid that should be delivered intravenously is inadvertently delivered into a tissue space”).

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde library also have a powerpoint presentation called ‘Principles of Infusion Devices‘ that might be of interest, there are images that highlight potential device problems, as well as the image showing the effects of extravasation.
